New York City Assemblyman Clyde Vanel, who is also an amateur pilot, was 3,500-feet in the air when his plane engine lost power. He tried switching fuel tanks and then he put the plane in glide speed, which gave him two minutes to find a place to land on a Long Island beach. With seconds to spare, Vanel glided his plane in for a landing. Miraculously, he did not injure himself. Now, Vanel is receiving a medal for outstanding airmanship for landing on an isolated stretch of beach.

The National Transportation Safety Board is shedding some light on what led up to a Nov. 27 plane crash in Gaithersburg, Maryland. News4’s Juliana Valencia reports.

Two planes crashed in mid-air Saturday during an air show in Dallas, Texas. No one on the ground was injured, but six people aboard the planes are feared dead. Cristian Benavides reports for CBS2.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the single-engine Cessna 172 lost engine power before landing on the bridge, about five miles east of the Opa-Locka Airport, around 1 p.m.

Federal officials are investigating a California plane crash after a number of people expressed doubts about the heroic story told by the pilot, who filmed the incident and posted it on social media. Trevor Jacob, a former team USA Olympic snowboarder, says he was on a mission to spread his friend’s ashes when he took to the skies in his single-engine plane over Los Padres National Forest. Twenty minutes into the flight, Jacob says he started experiencing engine trouble, and went on to jump out with a parachute.

Police officers were just in time to save a pilot whose plane went down near train tracks. LAPD officers responded to the scene in Pacoima where a pilot crashed after missing a landing at a nearby airport. He was injured, but officers knew they had to move quickly as the train was coming. They pulled him out and dragged him away from the impending crash. The pilot was taken to a hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.
